Fixed Aluminium Access Solution for Surge Vessel Maintenance
in a Water Desalination Plant

Project Tenure: August to December 2025

In demanding industrial environments such as water desalination plants, safe and reliable access systems are critical—especially when it comes to maintaining large infrastructure like surge vessels. This project highlights our ability to deliver a tailored
aluminium access solution despite site limitations and technical challenges.

Project Background

Al Jarsh received an inquiry from a contractor engaged in a water desalination project, who required a safe and efficient access solution for surge vessel maintenance. The initial request, supported by site images, specified a steel structure.

However, after technical discussions and a thorough evaluation of the site environment, aluminium was identified as a more suitable alternative. The customer agreed to proceed with aluminium, complemented by protective coatings and hot-dip galvanized fasteners to ensure durability and corrosion resistance in the plant’s harsh conditions.

Design Challenges & Approach

Due to the remoteness of the site and security constraints, a physical site visit was not feasible, which as our SOP we usually schedule in order to verify site topography, dimensional constraints, environmental challenges, by way of filling our standardized questionnaires (Work Environment Assessment  and Dimension Verification Sheet Forms). Additionally, the absence of 3D files and limited technical data added complexity to the design process.

To overcome these challenges:

  • Multiple design iterations were developed based on forms based on forms filled by the buyer.

  • Three detailed drafts were shared progressively with the client

  • Continuous coordination through calls ensured alignment on application requirements, spatial limitations, and potential obstructions

  • This collaborative approach allowed us to refine the design while ensuring it met all operational and safety requirements.

Fabrication & Quality Assurance

Upon order confirmation, fabrication commenced under strict quality control procedures, including:

  • Raw material inspection

  • Precision cutting and detailed record tracking

  • Welding jig and fixture verification

  • Welding quality inspection

  • Assembly fit-up checks

  • Final dimensional inspection

  • Load testing to ensure structural integrity

Each stage was carefully monitored by our qualified QA/QC Team to deliver a high-quality, reliable access system, documenting the process along the production cycle, and ensuring traceability.

Delivery & Installation

To optimize logistics, the system was designed on the onset as a knock-down (KD) structure and flat-packed for transport. This approach offered several advantages:

Reduced transportation/conveyance costs

  • Easier handling and movement to site by use of forklift and reduce manpower

  • Simplifying installation in restricted areas

Comprehensive assembly instructions and a detailed parts list with drawing aides were provided to support on-site installation by the contractor.

Maintenance & Longevity

A maintenance manual was also shared, outlining:

  • Best practices (do’s and don’ts)

  • Periodic inspection guidelines

  • Safety recommendations prior to use

Our modular aluminium systems are designed for long-term use, with replaceable components that minimize downtime and reduce replacement costs over time

Why Our Solutions Stand Out

Our access systems are often preferred over local fabricators for complex industrial applications due to:

  • Extensive experience across power plants and industrial sectors

  • Expertise in handling challenging site conditions and constraints

  • Ability to deliver fully modular, knock-down systems

  • Our solution offers reduce storage cost either prior to site readiness or during phases where access is not required allowing greater use of site space

  • Longer product life cycle and lower CAPEX due to replaceable components

  • High quality custom aluminium profiles from reputable extruders with qualifying certifications.

  • Superior welding finish, quality of spare parts and robust accessories to ensure long term usage.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates our capability to engineer and deliver customized aluminium access solutions—even in the absence of complete data and without site access. Through collaboration, technical expertise, and a strong focus on quality, we provided a safe, durable, and efficient system tailored to the client’s needs.
